lingeringdust askes: Do you do karaoke? If so... what is your go-to karaoke song?

Oops had to jiggle the posting schedule a bit again. I love karaoke but my friends never wanna go lol! I always love to sing stuff that I listened to when I was a teen, essentially, since I don't keep up with music that much these days. I also was hugely into Evanescence back in the day and I always pick one of their songs lol, usually Bring Me to Life since every karaoke place has it. Another fixture of my karaoke requests is Guang Liang's 童話 (Tong Hua or Fairytale) because this is the song that all my friends sang constantly when we were teens. The rare occasions where I still go to karaoke are actually with the same friends from high school, so I don't think our song picks have changed much lol!

We had diaspora-server karaoke with Tong Hua once...we ought to do it again! Also 100% on Bring Me to Life - did a project on that once :D

*Gasp* a project? Omg what did you do for it? I'm also 100% down for server karaoke and to do all the classic Chinese songs (Yue Liang Dao Biao Wo De Xin!!). =D

I had a very good English education - it was genuinely rigorous, but also super fun and creative in some ways! My friends and I adapted Bring Me to Life to the POV of Grendel from Beowulf and then performed it live with instruments in class! (I sang.) :D Pretty much like a school-sanctioned filk project!

That sounds amazing! It's such a nice way to learn - doing a project you like and have passion for with your friends. I'm sure it turned out really well! =D

I’ve never been to actual karaoke and would likely feel super embarrassed. XD But I’ve played Sing Star with my friends which was fun, as we all tried to get through Sleeping Beauty’s song with all those super high notes. XD I also was the only one who knew the whole text for “Big black horse and a cherry tree”.

We always played that on the easiest setting so you only had to find the right register for the notes, not actually hit the correct note. I did very well on “Buttons” by Pussycat Dolls that one time. XD

“Bring me to life” is a great song for this, it’s got the quiet notes but you can also scream!

Singing with friends is the best! Karaoke is definitely less about the accuracy and more about the vibes lmao. Sometimes bad singing makes things more fun! Oh Buttons, what a throwback lmao. I think I've also sung that in singing games before lmao. The main downside from karaoke imo is how raw and icky your throat feels after a long bit of singing hahaha. But marker of a good time had, I suppose!
