December 20th and 21st Posting Meme

I was unfortunately busy until late at night yesterday, so I'm crawling back late as usual lol.

December 20th:
kiriel123 asks: What's your favorite souvenir to bring back when you're traveling?
I don't really buy souvenirs when I travel much! I try to bring back some food products or liquor when I travel, so maybe that counts? I haven't travelled all that much out of my province/country in years so I don't even remember! Can't wait til I get to do that again. =D


December 21st:
dragongirlg asks: What's one fic that changed the way you think about fandom / your writing / the world / your identity (pick any)?
The one fic that immediately comes to mind is dreaming and getting a glimmer by verseau. For whatever reason, this fic was the one that made me realize I was bi! I was gonna post the section that really resonated with me at the time but uhhhh it's like all porn in the fic lol. This fic was about comp het Wei Ying and I think the combination of the story with how the lines were delivered finally got through to me, especially the parts where Wei Ying he isn't any less of a man because he wants to fuck Lan Zhan. It just clicked in my brain and I was like "ah, just because I haven't been with/dated any women doesn't make me not bi" and so on.

Anecdotally, when I told my close friends they were like "I thought you already knew that? Doesn't surprise us?" LOL. I have said since I was 18 that I'm physically interested in women sooooo yup took me almost 10 years to fully realize what I already knew about myself I guess. =P

Ooh yes you mentioned this fic before! I'm glad it had such a positive impact on you <3 (it's not my style, but I know a lot of people like it!)

I do magnets when I travel...used to be snow globes but that all changed due to the security haha1

Yup totally get it not being your style! I think it was the right fic at the right time and it had a huge impact on me at the time. I looked for the part that really got me when I was writing up this answer and, while I still liked it, it didn't have the same oomph as it did 1.5 years ago. I definitely see how it isn't your style! I'm super glad I read it when I did. That's actually a lot like Chanel Miller's statement to the Stanford rapist for me, actually. Reading her victim impact statement when it first came out in 2016 completely rocked my world and changed my perspective. It would still have been a profoundly gut-wrenching thing for me to read at any other point in my life, but it was pivotal for me at the time. I'm sure you've probably seen it around, but I would highly recommend her memoir Know My Name as well! Although big TW for sexual assault and how the legal system treats victims of assaults. =(

Snow globes sound so much fun but they must have been hard to transport! Oooh I should start collecting magnets because I actually use them on my fridge lol. The only magnet I have right now is one from travel but it was a trinket I meant to give someone else and kept instead lol.

Ah I remember reading that statement, thank you for the rec! And yeah - sometimes stories serve us when we need them, which is lovely! We grow and evolve and then we need something else, but that's okay too :D.

Surprisingly I never had a broken snow globe - I think I mostly kept them in the carry on! Too much of a hassle with the new security regulations though. And yeah magnets are fun! i like looking at them when I go to the fridge :D

Honestly food is always the biggest hit when I bring back souvenirs for people. My brother collects shot glasses from around the world so if I go someplace he hasn't been I'll normally pick one up for him - I think he has a shot glass for at least 20 countries now.

I remember when Dreaming and Getting a Glimmer came out! I was slightly obsessed with it at the time. It's so cool when reading something can make you realize something new about yourself.
